Bec Hill

Comedian. Presenter. Dork.

SHORT BIO:

Bec Hill is an (award-winning) Australian comedian, writer, performer, and presenter based in the UK. She is best known for her viral flipchart routines which have featured on 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown and The Jonathan Ross Show, but folks with young children might better recognize her as the host of ITV’s arts-and-crafts show Makeaway Takeaway. In her spare time, she solves listener’s problems on her podcast, A Problem Squared, which she co-hosts with YouTuber mathematician Matt Parker. Her voice can also be heard on the video games Mass Effect, and Anthem (as well as announcing the air times for Bluey on CBeebies, which is apparently more impressive). She has also written on numerous kids shows including The Amazing World of Gumball, Lucas the Spider, and the award-winning stop-motion show, The Sound Collector. AND she’s written some books, but in all honesty, you might as well just Google her at this stage. She’s the self-professed “Tooth Fairy for Adults” (offering between £2-£5 per tooth from people over 18 willing to sell them) and can do a very good impression of a car alarm if you ask her nicely.

long bio:

Australian-born and now London-based, Bec has gained an international cult following thanks to her award-winning solo shows, Facebook and Twitter presence, TV appearances and popular YouTube videos. She has a talent for incorporating arts-and-crafts into her stand-up routines, resulting in an unforgettable and self-taught performance style that she calls “paper-puppetry”.

She is also a sought-after comedy writer, which started when her one-liners were regularly featured in "best joke" lists by "reputable" sources like The Telegraph, Dave, The Guardian, The Independent, Daily Record and Buzzfeed (which wasn't surprising, as she was the creator of the UK’s first pun-based comedy night, Pun Run). Her writing credits include Lucas The Spider & Friends, School of Roars, The Amazing World of Gumball, Bluestone 42, Dilemma, The Now Show and her first short animation directorial debut, Scoring Pointes, which aired with Disney in 2016.

In late 2021, Bec’s unique mix of artistic and writing skills culminated in the release of her own CITV show called Makeaway Takeaway, and a new creep-tastic series of books called Horror Heights.

Previously, Bec co-hosted Sky’s DC Fancast - a companion show covering The Flash, Green Arrow, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow, alongside Rick Edwards. The job took her to Vancouver to visit the cast on set, and San Diego Comic Con to interview the stars on The CW’s private yacht - an experience which makes her sound far cooler than she ever was or will be. She can also be found on other TV shows, such as: The Jonathan Ross Show, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, Dara O'Briain's Go 8 Bit, and Sam & Mark's Big Friday Wind-Up. She has appeared on every season of CBBC's The Dog Ate My Homework, and starred in the Sundance UK Grand Jury Prize winning short film "Russian Roulette".

Video game enthusiasts may recognise Bec’s voice from Mass Effect: Andromeda and Anthem, while younger audiences might be more familiar with her announcements on CBeebies and CBBC. Her Aussie accent can also be heard on MANY podcasts, including the popular (and highly nerdy) A Problem Squared which she co-hosts with mathematician and YouTuber, Matt Parker.

She enjoys playing Beat Saber, Just Dance, and Starship Titanic (the underrated 1998 Douglas Adams PC game). Her favourite treat is an Australian snack called “Twisties” (though, she’ll also accept “Cheezels”), and she knows an unnecessary amount about the legal battles surrounding Troll dolls.
